SAVANNAH, GA (August 16, 2013): An early-morning wreck on Interstate 16 involving a single car claimed the life of one woman and injured another.
At 2:43 a.m. today, Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police responded to reports of an accident on eastbound I-16 at mile marker 151. On arrival, officers observed a black Honda Civic partially submerged in a water-filled ditch just off the embankment. Closer inspection of the vehicle revealed the driver, 39-year-old, Carman Rivers of Garden City, was deceased. The front-seat passenger, Shirley Oliver, 66, of Savannah, was extricated from the vehicle by Bloomingdale and Pooler Fire Departments.
Oliver was transported to Memorial Medical Center, where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
