“Building understanding through education, transparency, and community dialogue.”
Mayor Van R. Johnson, Chief Lenny B. Gunther, and the Savannah Police Department invites community members to participate in Behind the Badge: Understanding Police Use of Force, an interactive community engagement session designed to provide information, answer questions, and foster meaningful dialogue about one of the most discussed aspects of modern policing.
This session will offer participants an opportunity to learn about the legal framework governing police use of force, explore common misconceptions, review how use-of-force incidents are investigated, and engage in guided discussions based on real-world scenarios.
What You’ll Learn
During this session, participants will explore:
- The laws and legal standards that govern police use of force
- Common myths and facts surrounding police use of force
- How use-of-force incidents are reviewed and investigated
- An open question-and-answer session with Savannah Police Department personnel
Why Attend?
Understanding the realities of police use of force requires accurate information, open communication, and community engagement. This session is designed to provide transparency, encourage constructive conversation, and create a space where residents can ask questions and gain a deeper understanding of the processes involved.
