SAVANNAH, GA (November 4, 2017) – A woman was arrested today after she drove past a barricade at Cedar and 48th streets and drug an officer with her car.
Dana Lewton, 25, of Savannah, has been charged with failing to obey a police officer directing traffic, driving on a closed road and hit and run.
Lewton was attempting to get to a fast food restaurant on Bee Road about 8:30 a.m. when she drove onto a part of Washington Street that was closed to traffic for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon. Officer Corey Stevens asked her to turn around, but she ignored him and turned south on Cedar Street into a closed off area. When another officer tried to wave her down, she turned her car around and returned to Stevens. When she slowed down, Stevens reached into the car. Lewton fled, resulting in Stevens being dragged. He sustained scrapes and bruises as a result and was transported to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers located Lewton in her vehicle at Abercorn Street and DeRenne Avenue and took her into custody.
The incident remains under investigation by the Traffic Investigation Unit.
