SAVANNAH, GA. (April 9, 2014): Savannah High School and Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police will team together Thursday to present the first Metro Roll Call in the Street at a high school.
The roll call and a career fair will be held from 2-5 p.m. in the Capital Street parking lot of the school at 400 Pennsylvania Avenue. Police will display various special operations units ranging from Canine to Mounted Patrol to Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) as well as the actual Island Precinct Roll Call at 2:30 p.m.
Metro Police began holding the roll call meetings they use to start each shift in public areas two years ago to display to the public the resources being deployed in their area to keep them safe in an 8-hour period.
Thursday’s event is designed to alert students of the positions available in a police department – specifically SCMPD – for the career-minded students.
Savannah High is the home of the Law and Criminal Justice Program and is a part of the of the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System. The Law and Criminal Justice Program is designed to provide students with career-focused educational opportunities.
Each course has elements which cover tactics, methods, and skills utilized by professionals in the criminal law and public safety fields. The program is one of the district’s Specialty Program offerings and is open by application to any interested student in the district.
The event is free of charge and open to the public.
