SAVANNAH, GA (August 17, 2015): Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team responded to a fatal wreck that claimed the life of Savannah’s Jerry Hampton, 35.

At 4:09 a.m. today, Deandrea Thomas, 33, was driving south on the Talmadge Bridge in an International tractor towing a loaded log trailer. The trailer was hit from behind by a Chevrolet Camaro driven by Hampton. Hampton’s Camaro was then struck by a Dodge Ram driven by Terence Roberts, 46.

Hampton succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Roberts was transported by ambulance to Memorial University Medical Center for care.

A fire ignited in the Camaro after the collision. Savannah Fire extinguished the blaze.

Traffic flow across the Talmadge Bridge was impacted for several hours. The bridge reopened just before 10 a.m.

The cause of this accident is not determined. MAIT continues to investigate.
