On January 5, Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Special Victims Unit responded to 2400 Block of Harden Street after receiving calls about a malnourished child. The six year old child was being cared for by her mother Lakisha Green, 33, and Grandmother Cassie Green, 51.
The victim was transported to the hospital to be examined by a doctor; after it was determined the child was in a clear state of distress.
Doctors determined it to be an extreme case of neglect via malnutrition, starvation and dehydration. The child suffers from a genetic disorder where she cannot communicate, feed herself or walk and is bed ridden. When she was admitted to the ER her weight was 13lbs.
Violent crimes detectives responded to assist when it was determined the child could die. After a complete investigation it was determined through interviews and medical documentation that Cassie and Lakisha GREEN were allowing the child to starve to death.
The child is currently living with medical assistance. On May 25 the case was presented to the Grand Jury and both Lakisha and Cassie GREEN were charged with three (3) counts of criminal attempt/ murder. Today both women were served their warrants and arrested on the charges. They were transported to the Chatham County Detention Center.
