SAVANNAH, GA (March 31, 2015): West Chatham Precinct investigators of Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department have arrested a pair of teens for two crimes at a Liberty City area grocery store.
On March 25 at 2 a.m., an SCMPD patrol officer spotted Devontay Jones, 17, and a 13-year-old male, attempting to break-in to Red and White Grocery Store on the 3300 block of Ogeechee Road. Both teens fled the scene on foot. The younger teen was arrested and tied to another burglary at the same store on March 2. Jones was not caught.
Police secured a warrant to search Jones’ Sumter Street residence. Evidence found inside linked him to the March 2 burglary. SCMPD arrested Jones on an outstanding warrant from Houston County. Also, Metro detectives tied him to the March 25 incident in Savannah.
On March 2, security cameras recorded two black males, later identified as Jones and his 13-year-old accomplice, smashing Red and White’s glass front doors with a large rock. Once inside, the suspects stole cartons of cigarettes and cigarillos before fleeing on foot.
