SAVANNAH, GA (May 1, 2015): Early Thursday morning, collaboration by Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department’s Central, Downtown and Islands precincts led to the arrest of two armed carjacking suspects, less than 15 minutes after the crime was committed.
Tyrell Kimble, 17, and his 16-year-old accomplice were arrested. Kimble is charged with theft by receiving stolen auto, fleeing to elude and obstruction by hindering. The 16-year-old was charged with obstruction by hindering, then released to a guardian.
At about 1 a.m., Downtown Precinct officers responded to a reported carjacking at the intersection of Waters Avenue and East Henry Street. Officers learned that moments earlier, the suspects who were armed with a gun, demanded a car from a driver who stopped at a traffic light. The driver obliged. The suspects fled, heading south on Waters Avenue. Descriptions of the suspects were disseminated by Savannah-Chatham Communications Officers.
The vehicle was spotted and briefly pursued for several blocks by Central and Islands precinct officers on East Victory Drive and Harry Truman Parkway. The suspects abandoned the stolen vehicle, fleeing on foot. They were caught and taken into custody less than 30 minutes later.
The stolen vehicle was returned to its owner.
