SAVANNAH, GA ( May 2, 2011) Savannah-Chatham Metro Police have one man in custody after a weekend carjacking.
Sunday just after 6:00 p.m., a woman was leaving the Gwinnett Street Kroger when she was approached by a man. He grabbed her and demanded her purse, she refused at first. The man knocked her down and she finally gave him her purse to include her keys. He fled the area in her vehicle at a high rate of speed.
Monday morning, 4:29 a.m., officers spotted the vehicle matching the carjacking from Gwinnett Street. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, however the suspect refused to stop. After a brief pursuit the suspect stopped the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers were able to apprehend the suspect Jerrell THOMPSON, 24, and he was taken into custody.
Sufficient evidence was available to charge THOMPSON with robbery. He was then transported to Chatham County Detention Center.
