SAVANNAH, GA ( July 29, 2011) Statues stolen from a local car dealer could be on their way back home. Just after 8 p.m., last night SCMPD received a call from the home of O.C.Welch. The caller stated that seven statues worth forty thousand dollars had been stolen from his property. The thefts had taken place over a week or ten days.
This morning, detective started their investigation. By 9 a.m., they were on their way to a scrap metal center in South Carolina to make a possible ID, after receiving a tip from O.C Welch. Mr Welch received the tip from a good citizen. They were successful in identifying some of the stolen property, and started a canvas of other recycling centers nearby.
SCMPD Detectives have been working with detectives from other municipalities in Chatham County and South Carolina all afternoon. A majority of the statues have been located. SCMPD Detectives have developed four suspects; however, it Is too early in the investigation to release their names. A white Avalanche was seen delivering the stolen statues to two of the three scrap metal centers.
