SAVANNAH, GA (July 31, 2011) One man has been arrested in the case of the stolen statues.
Thursday Night, Just after 8 p.m., SCMPD received a call from the home of O.C.Welch. The caller stated that seven statues worth forty thousand dollars had been stolen from his property. The thefts had taken place over a week or ten days.
After receiving a tip from Mr. Welch, detectives were on their way to South Carolina to try to identify some of the stolen property. A canvas of other recycling centers nearby proved to be productive as well.
SCMPD Detectives were working with detectives from different municipalities in Chatham County and South Carolina, and believed they had located most of the stolen property by Friday afternoon.
Around 5 p.m., the investigation led SCMPD detectives to the home of Larry FORD, 42, located in the 10 Block of Settlers Point Road. As they approached the home, they observed- through an open garage door -what they believed to be one of the stolen statues.
FORD, 42, was taken into custody and charged with felony theft by taking. He was transported to the Chatham County Detention Center. This is an ongoing investigation.
