SAVANNAH – The Savannah Police Department has arrested a male juvenile in connection to an aggravated assault case that transpired on Wednesday, Oct. 8. The suspect was taken into custody on the evening of Thursday, Oct. 9.
At approximately 9:40 a.m. on Wednesday, officers were dispatched to the 4000 block of Clinch St. on reports of a male juvenile being struck with the handle of a pistol. After speaking to witnesses, officers learned that the suspect had pointed a firearm at the victim, struck him, and ordered him to remove articles of clothing. A video of the event was later uploaded to social media.
The suspect was brought to the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday evening by his mother but chose to invoke his Fifth Amendment Right against self-incrimination. The suspect was released the same evening due to insufficient evidence and the lack of an arrest warrant.
On Thursday, investigators gathered additional evidence and were able to secure an arrest warrant for the juvenile. He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a person under 18, and false imprisonment.
“I’m grateful for the hard work of our investigators,” said Lenny B. Gunther, Savannah Chief of Police. “Their efforts ensured a swift, thorough, and lawful arrest in this case.”
