Savannah – The Savannah Police Department is investigating a Sept. 27 aggravated assault in the area of Ann St. and Zubly St. that resulted in an officer-involved shooting.
Officers were on foot in the area when they heard shots fired at approximately 1:20 a.m. They witnessed an unarmed adult male victim running while a suspect was actively firing a gun at him. In response, one of the officers drew his weapon and engaged the suspect, firing approximately three shots. The suspect entered a vehicle and fled the scene.
Detectives interviewed the victim, who reported no injuries. Per protocol, the officer has been placed on administrative leave pending investigation.
“In incidents where officers discharge their firearm and do not result in serious injury, the Savannah Police Department’s Internal Affairs Unit conducts investigation into the case,” Assistant Chief Robert Gavin said.
