SAVANNAH, GA (August 31, 2011): A cadre of West Chatham patrol officers spent several hours seeking the location where a Savannah man was shot only to find he would not cooperate with the investigation after he was treated.
Sir Lawrence Hayes, 30, of Las Tunas Circle was dropped at St. Joseph Hospital in Southside Savannah at 11:19 p.m. with a gunshot wound to his back. Police immediately began searching for a crime scene. None was located.
Using an earlier 911 report of an injured man laying on a porch in the Overland Trail area off Quacco Road, they focused on that area. Earlier, police had responded to find no such victim.
Police identified the vehicle that delivered Hayes to the hospital but had not located it. Hayes was listed in stable condition.
Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Violent Crimes detectives are continuing to investigate. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Crimestoppers at (912) 234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637). In the body type, include “CStop2020” plus the tip. Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
