SAVANNAH, GA (April 29, 2016) – Detectives from the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department’s Downtown Precinct are asking the public’s help in identifying a man suspected of auto theft earlier this month.
Metro Officers responded to the report of an auto theft at an apartment complex in the 600 block of West Bay Street at approximately 8 a.m., April 9. The victim’s 2002 Lexus IS300 was last seen in the parking lot at approximately 5:30 a.m., and it was discovered missing two hours later.
A few hours later, officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the 200 block of West 38th Street, where they located the stolen vehicle. The Lexus was parked behind a residence with three doors open and damage to the front end.
Detectives believe the car thief was caught on surveillance video in the area. The suspect is described as a black male, wearing a gray long-sleeved shirt, black pants and a red knit hat.
