SAVANNAH, GA (June 2, 2011): A 28-year-old Savannah man has been charged with rape and false imprisonment after breaking into his former girlfriend’s house, taking her hostage and assaulting her this morning.
Wesley Trevon Diggs was found in the woman’s house. He fell out of the attic before hiding under a bed and refused orders to come out until he was bitten by a police canine aiding the arrest.
Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police took the woman to Candler Hospital this morning after she called to report the assault. She told police Diggs broke into the house about 1 a.m., choked her, attacked her and threatened to kill her. Twice he interrupted her attempts to call 9-1-1 for help.
Diggs forced her to remain in the house until she convinced him to allow her to go to work about 7 a.m.
Charges were filed after detectives conferred with the Chatham County District Attorney’s Office.
