SAVANNAH, GA (April 1, 2016): The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the theft of a purse that occurred at approximately 6:45 p.m., March 6, at a department store in the 14000 block of Abercorn Street.
The victim left her purse in a shopping cart outside the store and drove away. A store employee found the purse and took it to the customer service counter for safe keeping.
At that point, the suspect allegedly came inside, claimed the missing purse was hers, and promptly left the store. When the victim later returned to the store to claim her purse, she discovered it had already been taken by the suspect.
Detectives believe a nearby customer served as an accomplice and described the purse to the suspect via telephone. Once the suspect described the purse to store employees, the purse was given to her.
