SAVANNAH, GA (August 22, 2016): Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police ask the public’s help in the search for suspects linked to at last three armed robberies in the downtown area on Aug. 21 and 22.
The first incident was reported on Sunday, Aug. 21 in Whitfield Square on Habersham Street between East Gordon and East Taylor streets. Just after 11 p.m., the adult male victim was in the square playing Pokémon Go, when he was approached by at least three male suspects who held the victim at gunpoint and stole his possessions before fleeing.
Also, on Aug. 21, at about 11:30 p.m. Metro responded to a reported carjacking at Drayton and East Charlton Street. A male and female victim, both adults, were entering a parked vehicle when at least two armed males approached them, demanding their belongings. The suspects fled in the victim’s vehicle. The vehicle was discovered moments later behind the Kayton Homes Gym.
The third incident occurred at about 3:15 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 22, at a residence on the 500 block of East Park Avenue. An adult male standing outside of the residence was approached by three male suspects and robbed at gunpoint. The suspects then forced the victim into the residence, which was occupied by three other adults in their 20s. They also were held at gunpoint and robbed. One suspect fondled a female victim before exiting.
The suspects are reportedly black males, including one described as standing about 6 feet tall, heavy set and wearing a face covering during the incidents. They suspects were last seen in a black vehicle.
This investigation continues. Persons who share knowledge of these incidents with SCMPD that result in an arrest and conviction are eligible for a monetary reward of $10,000.
