SAVANNAH, GA (October 4, 2016): Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police are increasing patrols throughout Downtown in anticipation of large Oktoberfest crowds this coming weekend.
The festival will take place on River Street from Oct. 7-9. River Street will be closed to vehicular traffic from 8 p.m. Friday until 4 a.m. Saturday and again from 8 p.m. Saturday until 4 a.m. Sunday. All parking lots on River Street also will be closed during that time. Exceptions will be made for vendor parking. No additional road closures are expected.
SCMPD will increase patrols from City Market to River Street during the festival. Drivers are urged to be cautious of pedestrians. A mid-night curfew will be enforced for festival-goers younger than 17.
SCMPD representatives will be available for media interviews on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. in the SCMPD Public Affairs Office.
