SAVANNAH, GA (April 11, 2015) – The Undercover Narcotics Investigation Team (UNIT) of the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department has concluded a month-long investigation which has resulted in several arrests and the recovery of firearms, cash and drugs.
The investigation focused on street-level narcotics dealers in the Downtown Precinct. As a result, two search warrants were executed Friday morning by members of the UNIT, SWAT, Precinct Three and Precinct Five’s Crime Supression Units and K-9 teams from the SCMPD and CCSO.
This resulted in the successful apprehension of 5 suspects, the recovery of four firearms, $4,500 in cash, and various amounts of cocaine, marijuana and MDMA.
Chief Joseph H. Lumpkin, Sr. said, “The UNIT’s members are demonstrating an outstanding work ethic as they target armed offenders, street drug dealers and gang members. We encourage citizens to provide the information UNIT members need to arrest such dangerous individuals and groups.”
Three felony suspects are still outstanding with additional warrants forthcoming.
Vincent Smith, 34, was charged with Sale of a Controlled Substance (Cocaine)
Damon King, 34, was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (MDNA) and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
Steven Kennedy, 40, was charged with Possession of Marijuana and Possession of a Controlled Substance MDNA
Alan Palmer, 35, was charged with Possession of Tools for the Commission of a Crime
Lathan Williams, 67, was charged with Possession of Marijuana
