SAVANNAH, GA (July 14, 2017) – Today, Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department Southside Precinct investigators arrested a woman for an April theft that took place in the 8100 block of Abercorn Street.
During the course of their investigation, detectives asked for the public’s help to identify the suspect. Through several CrimeStoppers tips, detectives were able to determine the suspect was Venice Lipsey, 49.
“This case is a great example of how information sharing between the public and police can have an effect on crime in our city,” Southside Precinct investigator Detective Rodney Cooper said. “I’m thankful for the people who were willing to come forward and speak up.”
On April 24, Lipsey approached a 75-year-old woman at a store in the 8100 block of Abercorn Street and offered to assist her with her shopping. The elderly woman agreed. Under the guise of assisting, Lipsey stole the woman’s wallet.
Lipsey later made several purchases using the victim’s stolen credit cards.
Today, detectives served Lipsey with several warrants. She was charged with financial transaction card theft and two counts of financial transaction card fraud.
