SAVANNAH, GA (March 2, 2016): Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department’s Violent Crimes detectives are investigating a residential burglary reported on the 500 block of Pointe South Drive, during which a homeowner sustained a self-inflicted bullet graze wound on Wednesday, March 2.
Metro responded to the scene just after 2 p.m. following reports of a burglary suspect shooting at homeowner, Matthew Hermida, 24, as Hermida stopped that suspect from entering his house. Hermida was treated at the scene for a non-life-threatening injury.
SCMPD patrol officers, Violent Crimes investigators, K-9, Forensics and Aviation units responded to the scene in search of the suspect believed to have attempted to enter the residence. The suspect is described as a white male, standing about 6-feet, with medium length blonde hair covering his forehead and thick eyebrows. During the incident her wore a dark blue shirt with a picture of a fish and dark pants. The suspect fled on foot in an unknown direction.
After further investigation of the scene, evidence revealed that Hermida’s injury was self-inflicted. This investigation continues.
