SAVANNAH, GA (November 17, 2010): A high speed pursuit, accented with a suspect firing a gun at an officer and the fleeing car finally colliding with a tree, has left one man with charges and Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police seeking additional suspects.
Vincent Greene, 18, of the 1700 Block of East 38th Street, has been charged with Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer after Wednesday’s shooting. He also is being held on a previous, unrelated Burglary charge.
The pursuit began just after noon when a Neighborhood Task Force officer in an unmarked car approached a gray Honda driving in an erratic manner near 42nd and Cedar streets. When the officer drove near the Honda, it sped away and an occupant fired toward the police car.
Marked units joined the pursuit which ended shortly when the Honda turned down Henry Lane and hit a tree near the intersection of Anderson and Lincoln streets.
Both occupants of the Honda fled but before Police K-9 units could engage, Greene was found hiding under a house. He surrendered without further incident. After the event, police also recovered firearms.
The investigation is continuing.
