SAVANNAH, GA. (November 15, 2013): A 74-year-old Savannah man has been charged after leaving the scene of an accident in which he ran over a bicyclist with a pickup truck Friday morning.
Slaten Armstrong of the 1000 block of East 32nd Street called Emergency 911Friday evening to surrender to Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police after they released a description of the truck he was driving to area media. He has been charged with felony hit and run with serious injuries.
West Chatham Precinct officers had responded to Ogeechee and Tremont roads at 5:56 a.m. to find Gregory Scott Cassell, 44, of the 300 block of West Huntington Street, with serious but non-life threatening injuries. His bicycle had been crushed.
Metro’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) continues to investigate.
