SAVANNAH, GA (April 29, 2015) – More than 30 male officers and employees of the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department will be putting on high heels to support the Rape Crisis Center of the Coastal Empire’s Walk-a-Mile in Her Shoes event.
The event will take place Thursday, April 30th in Forsyth Park, beginning at the band shell at 6:30 p.m.
For the past week SCMPD employees have been challenging and sponsoring each other to participate in this Rape Crisis Center fundraiser. The goal is for men and boys to join the effort to avert sexual violence, and bring awareness to the struggles victims face.
K-9 officer APO Will Fernandez is one of the offices who will be participating. “Rape Crisis not only supports victims after the police leave but they also educate and counsel women, children and men about sexual assault. As a father and husband, how could I not support it,” APO Fernandez said. “I do not know what it is like to be a victim, but I can put myself out of my comfort zone and wear heels for few minutes to support them and those who assist them.”
