SAVANNAH, GA (October 30, 2015) –The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department ceremoniously swore in 31 new officers and four returning officers at a Badge Pinning Ceremony this morning at the fountain in Forsyth Park.
This was the largest badge pinning ceremony in recent years, with 35 honorees and more than 300 family members, friends, local leaders, business owners and community members attending.
The officers will report for duty in their assigned precincts on November 7.
Congratulations to officers Candice Bierley, Stuart Boyer, Derek Bradley, Travis Duncan, Anthony Errato, Joseph Floyd, Kevin Ging, Latrelle Gooddine, Damien Greatheart, Richard Green, DeeDee Hackle, Rebekah Helmick, Andrew Jenkins, Tori Klewiki-McNutt, Adam Lang, Amber Leasure, Joseph Lupus, Clinton Martin, Angelea Mercer, Michael Mitchell, Brandy Newsum, Zachary Parker, Collin Rourke, Julissa Sanchez, Philip Schenker, Charles Stevenson, Connor Wakefield, Valarie Walker, Ashley Wood, Logan Woods and Tramayne Young.
The SCMPD also welcomed back four pre-certified officers: Austin Foraker, John Hauber, Robert Martir, and Ronald Weekes.
Chief of Police Joseph H. Lumpkin, Sr. extended his appreciation to the new officers for stepping forward and becoming guardians of Savannah and Chatham County. “It is my job to make sure these officers have everything they need to stay safe; because if they are safe, they can do their job which is to keep this community safe,” he said.
Chief Lumpkin also thanked city and county leaders and members of the business community for helping the agency move forward and hire men and women with character, competence and integrity.
