SAVANNAH, GA (October 9, 2016): The Chatham Emergency Managment Agency will start allowing all residents and visitors back into Chatham County at 5:00 p.m. today. No documents will be required to reenter.
The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department is asking residents to use caution and be vigilant when they return home.
- There are still trees blocking some roads and many intersections remain without power. If motorists come to an intersection without power, remember to treat that intersection as a four-way stop.
- Hundreds of power crews are in town; be patient as they work to restore power. They may have to block some driveways as they work.
- In addition, residents returning home are reminded: Do NOT call 911 to report damage. City of Savannah residents can call 311. There are links to report damage to the city and county at www.scmpd.org/damage
- Finally, Metro asks members of the community to continue to report suspicious activity which may lead to burglaries, robberies, or theft and looting by calling 911.
