SAVANNAH, GA (September 13, 2011): A Savannah man driving a car stolen during an attempted drug deal Monday night is in jail after wrecking the car this morning.
Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police arrested Brandon Lamar Williams, 18, after he wrecked the black Honda sedan reported stolen from a Richmond Hill man. He has been charged with theft by receiving stolen property, fleeing to elude police, reckless driving, driving the wrong way on a one-way street, speeding, driving with a suspended or revoked license, failure to maintain a lane, reckless conduct and a parole violation.
A 17-year-old female with him was released after telling officers Williams had offered her a ride and she was unaware the car had been stolen.
Gregory Stephen Wojcian had reported the car taken at 6:31 p.m. Monday on Kollock Street just north of 37th Street by two men he had allowed into the car. He said one of the men pulled a pistol and they demanded his money and cell phone before taking the car. Police determined he was trying to buy illegal drugs from the suspects before the robbery.
Central Precinct patrol officers recognized the car from the initial report around 1 a.m. today and attempted to stop it. The Honda crashed at Bulloch Street and West Victory Drive.
