SAVANNAH, GA (January 15, 2013): A Savannah cab driver has died and his passenger was seriously injured when they were struck by a pickup truck this morning.
Scott Barrett, 46, of a West 38th Street address, died in surgery after being transported to Memorial University Medical Center. His passenger, Kirk Deweese of a Harmon Street address, was treated for serious injuries after the 8 a.m. crash.
The two men were standing behind the Yellow Cab that Barrett had been driving and loading an air comprssor into the trunk when they were struck by a pickup truck driven west in the 2100 block of Shell Road, off Skidaway Road. The two victims were pinned between the vehicles.
Donald Newman III, 27, of Brevard Circle address, driver of the pickup, escaped injury.
The Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) of the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department, is continuing to investigate.
