SAVANNAH, GA (June 13, 2012) Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police officers will expand their efforts to interact with residents and businesses in the Central Precinct on Friday with their second “Roll Call in the Streets.”
Capt. DeVonn Adams will begin his afternoon shift in the parking lot of Habersham Village on Habersham Street between 61st and 62nd streets. The daily briefing for officers beginning their shift from 3-11p.m. will begin at 2:30 p.m.
Residents and businesses in the area are encouraged to attend the briefing and interact with the officers and make suggestions.
Adams began his “Roll Call in the Streets” two weeks ago in Baldwin Park in an effort to build the relationship with the public. Members of the Baldwin Park Neighborhood Association, City Alderman Mary Osborne and members of the public attended that session.
Adams’ plan is to move the roll call to all neighborhoods in the Central Precinct during the summer months when school is out and crimes traditionally increase. Adams calls the overall operation “All Hands on Deck.” It includes a commitment from his officers to voluntarily limit their days off during the summer months to keep as many on the streets as possible.
So far this year, violent crime in the Central Precinct is down 16 percent from the same time last year and property crimes are down 21 percent. Adams’ goal is to maintain or even build that decrease.
