SAVANNAH, GA (April 27, 2013): Two drivers escaped life-threatening injuries in a head-on collision but a Midway, Ga., man was killed in a motorcycle crash Saturday afternoon.
George Thomas, 38, was pronounced dead at Memorial University Medical Center after he lost control of his 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle on Chief of Love Road about 2 p.m.
Major Accident Investigation Team officers of the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department found he was traveling south when he reached the end of the road. He applied his rear brake and was thrown from the motorcycle.
Thirty minutes earlier, Abraham Espaillat, 33, of Pooler and Luis Otero, 58, of a Burnt Pine Court address were transported to Memorial after their vehicles collided on Quacco Road at Highland Woods Mobile Home Park Drive. Neither had injuries considered life threatening.
Initial findings indicate Espaillat suffered a medical condition while driving west bound on Quacco Road. His vehicle crossed the center line and left the roadway into the path of Otero who was traveling east bound. Otero attempted to avoid the collision by driving off the roadway but was struck head-on.
MAIT officers continue to investigate both accidents.
