SAVANNAH, GA (May 11, 2013): Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) officers are investigating a multi-vehicle collision on US 80 East on Saturday afternoon that left one person dead and two in serious condition.
One victim was extricated from the wreckage by Southside Fire. All were transported to Memorial University Medical Center. All names are being withheld pending family notification.
The crash occurred about 5:45 p.m. when one vehicle crossed the centerline about 1.5 miles west of Fort Pulaski and clipped a truck towing a boat and trailer. The vehicle then collided with another vehicle head-on.
U.S. 80 was closed for several hours in both directions, leaving traffic backed up for miles.
MAIT continues to investigate.
