SAVANNAH, GA (September 16, 2011): Two males have been arrested after the accidental shotgun shooting of a third in a Southside apartment complex Thursday night.
Darin Banister, 17, of the 12000 block of White Bluff Road, was charged with reckless conduct. Robert McLaughlin, 18, who lives in the Plantation Oaks Apartment where the shooting took place in the 10000 block of Abercorn Street, was charged with concealing evidence and altering the serial number of a firearm. They both were chased down at a nearby post office after the 9:43 p.m. shooting.
Darius Hay, 18, McLaughlin’s roommate in the apartment, was treated at Memorial University Medical Center for birdshot wounds to his face. His wounds were not considered life-threatening.
The investigation by Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police revealed that the three men and others were filming a rap video in the apartment when Banister picked up the shotgun belonging to McLaughlin and it fired, striking Hay
Everyone in the apartment ran, including McLaughlin who hid the shotgun in bushes before leading police back to it.
