SAVANNAH, GA ( June 13, 2011) In 2010 Savannah-Chatham Metro Police 911 Dispatch Center received 248,774 911 calls and 165,920 administrative calls. All types of calls, covering everything from noise complaints to homicides. They dispatch for the Savannah-Chatham Metro Police, Savannah Fire and EMS, Garden City PD and Fire, Pooler PD and Fire, Thunderbolt PD and Fire, Bloomingdale PD and Fire, Port Wentworth PD and Fire and Southside EMS. Needless to say they are a very busy bunch. That’s why it’s so important to get this message to the public.
It is a misdemeanor to call 911 unless you have an emergency. The non-emergency police number is 912-652-6500. The police were called because a food order was wrong and the caller wanted her money back. This is a civil matter, not criminal. The police were dispatched however because the caller was getting disorderly. This caller was not arrested but could have faced 911 abuse charges.
Remember 911 is for emergencies only.
