SAVANNAH,GA ( May 30, 2012) Georgia Power Company crews restored power to the Savannah-Chatham Emergency 911 Center three and a half hours after a constructgion crew cut a power line on on Chatham Parkway this afternoon.
Power was restored at 5 p.m. It was cut at 1:30 p.m.
911 employees began the process of putting the emergency 911 center back online immedeiately.
Calls to the emergency center were answered using emergency battery backup until 3:02 p.m. when the batteries expired.
Nine dispatchers began taking calls at the Chatham Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) emergency center at the Chatham County Courthouxse by 3:20 p.m. In the interim some calls were redirected to the Tybee Island 911 center.
Radio traffic was transmitted using portable radios.
