SAVANNAH, GA (August 29, 2011): An 18-year-old Savannah man is being sought for the robbery of the Parkers convenience store on Beech Street last Friday
Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police have issued robbery warrants for Charles Christopher Johnson. They had distributed photos taken from the robbery to the public last Friday to help identify the suspect.
The investigation pointed to Johnson as the man who reportedly forced the 20-year-old clerk to open the cash register and then kicked in the bottom of a door to the office, forced the clerk to crawl through and obtain the keys to the safe. He then forced her back to the counter to open the safe and give him the contents.
When a customer came in, the man reportedly lay down on the floor behind the counter and pointed a gun at the clerk to keep her quiet. After the customer left, he grabbed two cartons of cigarettes and ran from the store.
Johnson had been released from the Chatham County Detention Center July 18 after serving four months for criminal trespass at the Montgomery Crossroads Wal-Mart store in March. He had been banned from all Wal-Marts in 2010 after being arrested for shoplifting in the Wilmington Island store on U.S. 80.
Anyone with information his location or on the robbery is asked to call Crimestoppers at (912) 234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637). In the body type, include “CStop2020” plus the tip. Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
