SAVANNAH, GA (October 29, 2014): A taskforce activated by Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police resulted in several dozen arrests, including a suspect in a recent west Savannah shooting.
Metro’s Violent Crimes Taskforce was comprised of patrol officers, detectives, and SWAT officers. The goal was to identify and perform targeted patrols of the city’s most active areas to deter or remove high-risk individuals and situations.
Saturday, Oct. 25, a felony arrest warrant was served to Jason Lewis, 30, of Savannah, for the Oct. 4 shooting of 47-year-old Kevin Milton at Carolan and Damon streets.
In total, the taskforce produced 16 felony arrests, including: two for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, one for possession of heroin, five for possession of cocaine, three for possession of marijuana, one for possession of prescription pills, one for felony obstruction, and three felony warrants. Also, the taskforce yielded 27 misdemeanor arrests, 83 field interviews, 49 traffic citations, nine recovered guns, including a stolen one, and one stolen vehicle recovery.
The Violent Crimes Taskforce was activated Oct. 17 through Oct. 25. It will be reactivated as necessary by the SCMPD Command Staff.
