SAVANNAH, GA (October 25, 2013): In a multi-agency taskforce facilitated by Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department’s Savannah Impact Program (SIP), maximum efforts are being taken to keep the community and its children safe Halloween night.
This taskforce is known as ‘Operation Candy Crush.’ It is designed to assure that known adult and juvenile sex offenders on probation and parole are closely monitored during peak trick-or-treating times for children. Additionally, there will be increased visibility from law enforcement throughout the county during those hours.
On Oct. 31, SIP will deploy multiple teams of foot and car patrols in high crime zones to deter criminal activity. Probation and parole officers, assisted by SCMPD, will conduct compliance checks on a pre-selected offenders.
Additional support is being provided to SIP by the State Board of Pardons and Parole, Savannah Probation, the Department of Juvenile Justice, and Chatham County Juvenile Court.
