Two additional arrests have been made in an entering auto theft ring that detectives broke up in early last month.
Between March 1 – May 1, a string of entering autos took place around the Olde Towne, Buccaneer Trace, and Wilmington Park neighborhoods. The suspects told police they broke into every car that was left open. Detectives from the Islands Precinct were alerted when one of the suspects was attempting to pawn stolen property.
Benjamin Olsen, 17, and Wesley Hood, 18, were arrested and charged numerous counts of entering auto May 4. Tuesday night Amelia Simone Rinehart, 17, and Ailene Brigette Lagat, 17, were arrested and charged as well. They described what they were doing as “jerking”. Saying they would use their shirt to cover their hands and jerk the handle, if a car was left open they would enter it and take what they could. Detectives remind citizens to take their valuables inside and lock their vehicles.
