UPDATE (January 16, 2020): The 15-year-old driver, whose identity will not be released, has been charged in juvenile court with charges including, serious injury by vehicle, theft by taking motor vehicle, reckless driving and driving without a license. A 12-year-old passenger was also charged with serious injury by vehicle and theft by taking. The injured passenger was not charged.

SAVANNAH, GA (December 15, 2019) – Savannah Police’s Traffic Investigation Unit is investigating a single vehicle crash on Collat Avenue today that resulted in serious injuries to a juvenile occupant.
Around 5:15 a.m. officers responded to a single vehicle crash in the 900 block of Collat Avenue and discovered a 14-year-old juvenile, who was unrestrained and in the back seat, suffering from serious injuries. He was transported to a hospital for treatment. A preliminary investigation revealed that the stolen 2003 GMC Envoy was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and struck a tree. The driver, who is believed to be a juvenile, fled the scene prior to police arriving. The driver has not been positively identified at this time.
Anyone with information on the crash should contact the Traffic Investigation Unit at (912) 525-2421 or CrimeStoppers at (912) 234-2020. Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
