SAVANNAH, GA (February 8, 2019) – Savannah Police’s Traffic Investigation Unit is investigating an incident involving a horse drawn carriage that occurred today in Warren Square.

About 11:30 a.m. officers responded to Warren Square near Habersham and E. Congress streets and discovered seven people had been injured when a horse drawn carriage overturned. All seven occupants, including the driver of the carriage, were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to an initial investigation, the occupied carriage was traveling on Habersham Street near Columbus Square when the horse got spooked and started to run. The driver maintained control briefly but lost control when the carriage was in Warren Square. The carriage went into the bushes and rolled onto its side. Savannah Police’s Mounted Unit assisted with the horse, which does not appear to have any serious injuries.

The incident remains under investigation.
