SAVANNAH, GA (December 22, 2014): A 38-year-old Bloomingdale Man charged with multiple offenses after stealing a van and striking several cars including a patrol car Friday is being held for extradition to Florida to face other charges.
Shawn Aaron Norris was arrested in a swamp off Silk Hope Road about 3 p.m. Friday after police followed him down two dead-end roads in an attempt to elude them. Four Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department officers pulled him from the water.
West Chatham Patrol officers originally located him on the 5900 block of Ogeechee Road with the help of a GPS in the stolen white 2006 Chevy van he was driving.
When an officer approached the van, he backed it towards the officer, and then turned the van towards a second officer, striking his patrol car. The officer used evasive action to avoid being struck by the van.
The van then struck a flag pole and several other cars before speeding off on Ogeechee Road, driving recklessly onto Fort Argyle Road before turning onto Silk Hope. Police followed without emergency equipment until the van turned down its second dead end road and struck a tree.
A Metro helicopter helped guide the officers toward the suspect where he was taken into custody.
He is being held for extradition to Indian River County, Fla., where he is wanted for violation of probation for home invasion.
In Savannah, he was charged with theft by taking, obstruction by fleeing, theft by receiving stolen property, fleeing to elude police and a dozen traffic offenses.
