SAVANNAH, GA ( June 30, 2011) Two juveniles are in custody after a citizen caught them red-handed breaking into his car.
Just after 11 p.m., officers responded to 2100 Block of Whitemarsh Way in reference to an entering auto that had just occurred. When they arrived the victim had two suspects detained. He told police he looked out of his window and noticed the suspects rummaging through his vehicle. He said he confronted the suspects who ran. He immediately gave chase.
The suspects went into a wooded marsh area and the victim decided not to follow but to fire a warning shot into the ground. At that time the suspects surrendered and came out of hiding. The victim’s property was recovered and released to him.
The suspects, who turned out to be 14- and 15-year-old juveniles, also had other stolen property on them. They admitted to breaking into three cars in an apartment complex earlier that night. They also admitted to breaking into other vehicles two weeks earlier. The two Juveniles were charged with entering auto, possession of tools for commission of a crime, and underage drinking. Savannah Regional Youth Detention Center was contacted but declined to accept the suspects as their facility is full at this time. The suspects were processed by SCMPD Forensics prior to their release.
( both of the Juveniles live or are staying with family members on Wilmington Island)
