SAVANNAH, GA (November 16, 2015): Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department’s Violent Crimes detectives charged Nathaniel Pugh, 33, with obstruction by fleeing and obstruction by hindering an investigation after absconding from Metro officers and falsely reporting a crime on Sunday.

At about 8:58 p.m. Metro responded to East 58th and Guatemala streets where shots were fired from a white sedan. Police attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver fled, then crashed on West 49th and Boyd streets. The suspect exited, resulting in a search of the area. A gun was recovered. No suspect was located.

At about 10:02 p.m. Metro responded to reports of an armed carjacking on Bull Street and Berkeley Place involving the same white sedan. Pugh claimed to be one of the carjacking victims. Evidence conflicted with Pugh’s account of what took place.

Pugh was arrested. This case remains under investigation.

Pugh also was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon for an incident on Nov. 4.
