SAVANNAH, GA (June 13, 2022): SPD’s Traffic Investigation Unit is investigating June 12 crash that resulted in the death of a 65-year-old bicyclist.
Around 6:40 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of W. 37th and Barnard streets and discovered Edward Mark Russell, III, suffering from serious injuries related to the crash. He was transported to Memorial Medical Center, where he died as a result of his injuries.
According to a preliminary investigation, Russell, of Port Royal, S.C., was traveling south on Barnard Street when he failed to stop for the red light and attempted to cross W. 37th Street. A Chevrolet Tahoe that was traveling in the eastbound lanes of W. 37th Street then struck the bicyclist. The driver of the Tahoe was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
