SAVANNAH, GA (March 18, 2019) – During the two-day St. Patrick’s Day festival, which ran from March 15-16, Savannah Police Department officers made 19 arrests in the festival zone.
Of those arrests, four were felonies. One of the felonies was the result of an officer citing an individual for littering. While writing the citation, he discovered the subject was a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Two of those felonies involved possession of a drug with the intent to distribute.
In comparison, last year SPD officers made 29 arrests in the festival zone during the two-day festival.
The Savannah Police Department also towed 64 vehicles, 59 of which were towed from the parade route.
During the festival, the Alcohol Beverage Compliance Unit along with the Georgia Department of Revenue, Alcohol and Tobacco Division conducted checks at 32 businesses. Of those, 16 failed the operation. For five of those businesses, it was their second fail. The managers or licensees were notified of the alcohol sold, if the buyer was underage, if the offender checked for ID, how the alcohol was served, and the actions taken by law enforcement. Those that passed the check will receive letters of congratulations.
