SAVANNAH, GA (August 21, 2012) Southside businesses and residents will notice a stronger than usual police presence beginning today as the Southside Precinct launches a high visibility campaign.
Southside Commander, Capt. Carl Ramey said his officers are being joined by Mounted Patrol, K-9, Aviation and Tactical Reaction and Prevention (TRAP) units as well as the Neighborhood Task Force to address crime issues.
Units from the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department are saturating specific residential and commercial neighborhoods, conducting road checks and continuing prostitution stings and surveillances of parking lots where auto break-ins and thefts have been reported.
“We’re trying to reset the tone of the area before school starts,” Ramey said. “We’ve already stepped up patrols in the area but this exercise is to create a presence in certain neighborhoods that we expect to be preventive in nature.”
Ramey said police specifically are observing hotel, movie theaters and apartment parking lots where property crimes have been reported.
