All vehicles illegally parked in the City of Savannah are towed at the owner’s expense. Affected motorists must obtain a vehicle release form from SPD Police Headquarters, 201 Habersham St., in order to claim any towed vehicle. SPD’s Information Desk is open 7 days a week, 7 a.m. to 12 a.m., Monday through Sunday.
You must come in person. A valid driver’s license, vehicle registration, and insurance are required to obtain a vehicle release form from SPD.
Vehicles on hold for an investigation cannot be released without investigator approval.
If this is a rental vehicle, SPD can only release the vehicle to the rental company. Please inform the rental company that the vehicle has been towed.
If the vehicle owner is incarcerated or otherwise unable to pick up the vehicle, a Hold Harmless and Release form must be signed and notarized to authorize the release of their vehicle to another individual. A valid driver’s license, passport, or state picture ID of the owner needs to be provided along with this release in order for Savannah Police Department to move forward with the release; these documents can be emailed to customerservicedesk@savannahga.gov or brought in person to the headquarters.
You must then contact the individual towing company to have your vehicle released. The individual towing company will not release a vehicle without a signed vehicle release form. Payments must be made to the tow company, not the Savannah Police Department.
For further questions, please contact the SPD Information Desk at 912-651-6675.
