SAVANNAH, GA (August 25, 2014) – The new Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department website is highlighting some of Savannah and Chatham County’s unsolved homicides in a “Cold Case” file in hopes of generating new information and new leads.
The website, which went live on August 5, currently features six open homicide investigations. The goal is to make information about these cases assessable to the public, 24/7. Anyone who visits the page can also e-mail anonymous tips directly to the Criminal Investigations Division or call CrimeStoppers at 234-2020.
Criminal Investigations Division Commander Major Larry Branson said, “Cold Case” shows are very popular on television and we really wanted to draw attention to this new feature on our website. In the cases we highlighted, the investigation hasn’t gotten cold, but the leads have. We see our website as another tool we can use to hopefully gain new information about a case. Someone knows something that can help us solve these cases.”
Each case highlighted on the website includes family photos and even links to recent news stories.
“We want the people who visit these pages to feel a connection to the victims and their families and just maybe that will compel someone to come forward,” Branson said.
Many more unsolved homicide cases and potential other unsolved cases will be highlighted under the “Cold Case” tab in the very near future. https://savannahpd.org/cold-cases/
“We know there are people out there with information that can help us solve these cases,” said Asst. Chief Terry Enoch. “The more awareness in the community, the higher the chance of making an arrest.”
