SAVANNAH, GA (May 6, 2011): Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police and Savannah Chatham County Public School System Campus Police teamed today to address truancy and netted more than 26 students.
SCMPD Officers scoured the streets to find 17 students. Six of them, including one who was over 16, were returned to school. Eleven others were interviewed but were not returned to school because they were 16 or older. Police also went to two homes and contacted parents about their children’s truancy.
SCCPSS Campus Police made 112 home visits, contacting parents of 49 students and eight students themselves. One was returned to school and 34 letters of warnings were issued to students and their parents warning of penalties of truancy.
